Student Visa
How do I apply for this visa?
To study in Switzerland, firstly you’ll need to apply for admission to the school or university of your choice. Be sure to check the admission deadline well in advance so you can make sure you apply on time. Most universities will accept online applications, but you’ll need to provide your upper secondary school leaving certificate (either the original or a notarised copy) and an up-to-date passport photo.
What you’ll do next depends on whether you’re an EU/EFTA citizen or not.
Within 14 days of being in Switzerland, you’ll need to register with the local authority (Einwohnerkontrolle, Residents’ Registration Office) at your place of residence. You’ll also need to apply for a residence permit and show your supporting documents.
You’ll need to contact the Swiss embassy or consulate in your own country and apply for a visa. If the immigration or police authorities approve your application, the requirements for entering Switzerland and for residence to study will be met. You can find more information about this at the Federal Office of Migration.
Any foreign nationals who aren’t EU/EFTA citizens and who don’t require a visa should contact the Swiss embassy or consulate in their country. You can find out the current entry and residence requirements and formalities needed.
