What am I allowed to do with a French student visa? 

As well as studying, you can also work a certain number of hours if you like. Just be aware that this part-time work should be a secondary source of income and won’t be enough to cover all your expenses.

As a foreign student, you can work 964 hours. This is about 60% of the normal working hours in France (Algerian nationals are only able to work 50% of normal working hours in France).

France has a minimum wage which you might see referred to as SMIC (Salaire Minimum Interprofessionnel de Croissance).
