- Your passport (or another valid travel document)
Remember, your passport or travel document will need to show:-
that it is valid for at least 3 months after your date of departure from the territory of the Member States or, in the case of several visits, after the final date of departure from the territory of the Member States. However, in certain emergency circumstances, this may be waived.

it has been issued within the last 10 years

- A document that confirms your reason for travelling
- A document that confirms where you’ll be staying in Belgium
- Documents to show that you’re able to look after yourself for the whole of your stay, as well as for your return and/or onward journey to a third country. Or, that you’ll gain the means lawfully, in accordance with Article 5(1)(c) and (3) of the Schengen Borders Code.
- A document that confirms you’re planning to leave the territory of the Member States before your visa runs out.
- Confirmation that you’ve organised a return or round ticket.
- Proof that you’ll be able to financially support yourself in Belgium.
- Confirmation of your employment, for example, bank statements or payslips.
- Proof of real estate property.
- Travel medical insurance
When applying for a uniform visa for 1 or 2 visits, you’ll be asked to show that you have the appropriate travel medical insurance. This will need to cover you for any expenses that may occur if you need to travel back home during your stay on the territory of the Members States, for any of the following reasons:- medical reasons
- urgent medical attention
- emergency hospital treatment
- death
Your insurance will also need to be valid for the whole territory of the Member States and cover the full period of your stay or transit. The minimum coverage will need to be EUR 30 000.
You’ll need to have the following documents with you to confirm your plans for accommodation:
- if you’re staying with a host, you’ll be asked to show an invitation from them as well as a copy of their passport or permit
- or, a document that confirms your accommodation from the place you’re staying (or any other appropriate document confirming your accommodation)
You’ll also need documents that confirm your plans, including:
- your booking confirmation of the organised trip or any other documents that show your plans whilst visiting Belgium.
- or, in the case of transit, a visa or other entry permit for the third country of destination; including tickets for your onward journey.
You’ll need to show:
- a letter from your tour provider, if you’re travelling with one.
- Proof that you’re able to financially support yourself, for example:
- Provide recent bank statements from the last 3 months before starting your visa application (please note, if you’ve received a large sum of money shown on your statement, it’s a good idea to confirm what it was for).
- a credit card and a bank statement corresponding to your card.
- Any cheques you have
- an employment contract or pay slips that cover the last 3 months.
Please note, if you’re unable to provide valid supporting documents, you may be able to use a guarantor. A formal obligation will need to be provided to show you’ll be supported for your trip.
- An invitation from your relative or friend who is living in Belgium, inviting you to visit them. You’ll also need to provide a copy of their passport and/or residence permit for Belgium.
- Confirmation of sponsorship - if someone else who is currently living in Belgium is planning to cover your expenses during your stay there, you’ll need to provide:
- A formal obligation that has been created within 6 months.
- A copy of your guarantor’s most recent 3 salary sheets or tax sheets.
- A photocopy of your guarantor’s identity card or their unlimited residence permit.
- An original certificate of the family composition of the guarantor, issued by his/her municipality in Belgium (no residence certificate).
- Proof of your relationship with the host you’re staying within Belgium.
- Proof of civil status - this could be a marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, or death certificate of spouse, etc.
- If applying on behalf of a minor, you’ll need to provide either:
- a birth certificate
- proof of adoption
- custody decree if parents are divorced
- death certificate of the parent
- Confirmation of your plans to return to the country of residence.
