Tourist Short Stay Visa
A step-by-step guide that explains what you need to do during the application process.
When can I apply for a tourist visa to visit Belgium?
You can apply for this visa up to 6 months before you plan to travel, but no later than 15 days before. It’s a good idea to start your application as early as possible to allow plenty of time for it to be accepted. Especially during busy periods, such as the holidays, appointments can take a little longer than usual.
You can start your application form online. This is managed by the Federal Public Service for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation.
Whilst you can start your application online, you’ll need to submit it in person, during an appointment.
This is because, when visiting the Schengen Area for the first time, you’ll need to present yourself in person, so you can have your photograph taken and fingerprints scanned (also known as biometric information).
Please note, you could be exempt from fingerprinting if you’re:
- a child under the age of 12
- someone who is physically unable to provide fingerprints.
To be approved, your visa application will need to:
- include a handwritten signature;
- show confirmation of a valid travel document;
- show a photograph;
- confirm payment of the visa fee, and
- include biometric identification such as your fingerprints.
If your visa application doesn’t include the above, it, unfortunately, won’t be considered.
