What can I do in the UK with a Child Student visa?
A Child Student visa will let you carry out your studies at an independent school in the UK. If you’re 16 or over, you can also work a job around your studies to earn some extra cash. You can work:
- part-time during term for up to 10 hours per week
- full-time out of term time, for example, summer break, or term breaks
- on a work placement as part of your course (please note, this can’t be for more than 50% of your course)
What can’t I do in the UK with a Child Student visa?
- study at an academy or a local authority-funded school (also known as a maintained school) or further or higher education institution
- claim public funds
- take a full-time permanent job or be self-employed
- work as a professional sportsperson or entertainer
- apply for settlement, meaning the right to live in the UK permanently
- bring family members or ‘dependants’ - if a parent wants to come with you, they’ll need to apply for a Parent of a Child Student visa
