Switzerland Visas

An overview of tourist, business, and student visas.

Tourist

Are you planning to explore Switzerland and wondering whether you’ll need a visa? This will depend on your nationality, how long you’re planning to stay in Switzerland and your reason for travelling. Generally, the key thing that determines whether you need a visa or not, is whether you’re from an EU/EFTA state or from a third country.

Business

You can come to Switzerland for short-term employment and won’t need a residence permit to work for an employer for up to 3 months. For employment over 3 months, you would need to apply for a residence permit from the Swiss commune.

Student

To study in Switzerland, you’ll first need to be accepted at an educational institution. You’ll be asked for proof of this when you come to apply for a student visa. Once you have this, you’ll either apply for a residence permit or submit a student visa application to the Swiss representation for your country of residence.
