A handy list of the documents you will need during your visa application
What documents will I need to apply for this visa?
During the application process, you could be asked to show the following supporting documents:
- Your visa application form
- Your passport (or other valid travel document)
Don’t forget, your passport or travel document will need to show:
- that it will be valid for at least 3 months after the intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States or, in the case of several visits, after the last intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States. In certain emergency circumstances, this may be waived.
- it has at least 2 blank pages
- it has been issued within the last 10 years
- A document that explains your reason for travelling
- A document that shows where you’ll be staying in {COUNTRY}
- Documents to show that you’ll be able to look after yourself for the duration of your stay, as well as for your return journey, or onward journey to a third country. Or that you’ll gain the means lawfully, in accordance with Article 5(1)(c) and (3) of the Schengen Borders Code.
- A document that shows you’re planning to leave the territory of the Member States before your visa expires.
- Proof that you have purchased a return or round ticket.
- Proof that you’ll be able to financially support yourself whilst in {COUNTRY}.
- Proof of your employment, these could be in the form of bank statements or payslips.
- Proof of real estate property.
- Travel medical insurance
When applying for a uniform visa for 1 or 2 visits, you’ll need to show that you have the appropriate travel medical insurance that covers any expenses that may occur if you need to travel back to your original country during your stay on the territory of the Members States, for any of the following reasons:
- medical reasons
- urgent medical attention
- emergency hospital treatment
- death
Your insurance will need to be valid throughout the territory of the Member States and cover the whole period of your stay or transit. The minimum coverage shall be EUR 30 000.

What other documents will I need to show when travelling for tourism or other private reasons?
You’ll need the following documents that relate to your accommodation:
- if you’re staying with a host, you’ll need to show an invitation from them as well as a copy of their passport or permit
- or, a document that confirms your accommodation from the establishment who is providing it (or any other appropriate document confirming your accommodation)
You’ll also need documents that relate to your plans, including:
- your booking confirmation of an organised trip or any other appropriate document that shows your travel plans.
- or, in the case of transit, a visa or other entry permit for the third country of destination; including tickets for your onward journey.
What other documents will I need to show when travelling for a business trip?
- an invitation from a firm or an authority that requires you to attend meetings, conferences or events connected with trade, industry or work.
- documents that show the trade relations or relations for work purposes.
- entry tickets for fairs and congresses, if appropriate.
- documents that show the business activities of the company.
- documents proving your employment status in the company.
