Which documents will I be asked to provide for my student visa application?

You can visit  Visa for Italy and then select your country as a citizen, your country of residence, how long you plan on staying in Italy and the reason for it. For each type of visa, you will be able to find information on which documents you have been asked to give in.

Top tip: It is also a good idea to speak with a visa office for your area for more specific information.

What is the ‘certificate of equivalence’ of qualification and how can I get one?

This is a document that certifies a foreign qualification is authentic. It outlines:

  • any access requirements
  • how long your studies will take
  • the legal, qualifying or professional value of the qualification to let you practice your profession

Due to the above reasons, the original copy of your diploma or degree will need to be submitted to the Italian consular authorities.

Handy tip: It’s a good idea to get your ‘certificate of equivalence’ set up before you move to Italy as this can stop any potential delays or additional costs.

For more information on qualifications, please visit the web portal study-in-italy.it from the Ministry for Education, University and Research (MIUR), and the CIMEA (Information Center on Mobility and Academic Equivalence).

I am a non-EU citizen. Can I enrol in an Italian university?

Updated information every year is released from the Ministry for Education, University and Research (MIUR). For more information, you can visit the Foreign Students section where you can find out more about the deadlines and procedures in place.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has also set up a web portal that goes through the steps of the enrolment procedure (also available in English). If you do have any questions you’d like to ask, you may be able to find the answers, here
