Student Visa
Are there any requirements I need to follow when applying for my student travel visa?
If you’re applying for a university placement, you’ll need to be able to show that you have the minimum financial means to support yourself throughout the course. This is based on the yearly ‘social allowance’ provided. If your studies are due to take place over a few years, you only need to prove your financial means for the first year.
For other types of student visas, you can refer to Table A of the Directive issued by the Ministry for Internal Affairs on March 1, 2000 which gives a fixed amount and a daily amount, so the total amount needed will vary, depending on how long you plan to study in Italy.
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to use a bank guarantee or an insurance policy as proof but you can use any of the following as guarantees:
- personal
- family
- financial (provided by Italian institutions and organisations, which includes universities)
- local governments
- foreign institutions and organisations deemed reliable by the Italian Diplomatic Mission
For more information on this you can see the MIUR website page for foreign students.
