What other documents will I need to show when travelling for tourism or other private reasons?
You may need to provide
- Your visa application form
- Your passport or another valid travel document. Remember, your passport or travel document will need:
- to show that’ll be valid for at least 3 months after the intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States or, in the case of several visits, after the last intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States. However, in certain emergency circumstances, this may be waived.
- to have at least 1 blank page
- to have been issued within the previous 10 years
- A document that confirms your reason to travel
- A document that shows where you’ll be staying in Germany
- Documents to confirm you’ll have the means to look after yourself for the duration of your stay, as well as for your return journey, or onward journey to a third country. Or that you’ll gain the means lawfully, in accordance with Article 5(1)(c) and (3) of the Schengen Borders Code.
- A document that confirms you’re planning to leave the territory of the Member States before your visa runs out.
- Confirmation of your purchased return or round ticket.
- Proof that you’ll be able to financially support yourself during your stay in Germany.
- Proof of your employment, for example, bank statements or payslips.
- Proof of real estate property.
- Travel medical insurance - When applying for a uniform visa for 1 or 2 visits, you’ll be asked to show that you have the required travel medical insurance that covers any expenses that may occur should you need to travel back to your original country during your stay on the territory of the Members States, for any of the following reasons:
- medical reasons
- urgent medical attention
- emergency hospital treatment
- death
Your insurance will need to be valid throughout the territory of the Member States and cover the whole period of your stay or transit. The minimum coverage shall be EUR 30 000.
- A Cover Letter that explains why you’d like to visit Germany. You’ll need to include how long you intend to remain there, as well as what you will be doing there, amongst others.
- An invitation from the person you’re visiting whilst out in Germany, whether this sponsorship or private accommodation. The invitation will need to include the address, length of your stay and contact details of your host.
- Proof of civil status. That could be a marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, spouse’s death certificate, ration card (if applicable), etc.
- Your driver’s license or utility bill in your name. This is required as confirmation of residence in the consulate where you plan to apply for the visa.
- If you’re a minor and are travelling unaccompanied by your parent(s), you’ll need to have the following:
- a consent letter signed by both parents
- the form signed by both parents
- copy of your parent(s)’ passports data page
What other documents will I need to show when travelling for tourism or other private reasons?
You’ll need the following documents to confirm your accommodation:
- if you’re staying with a host, you’ll need to show an invitation from them as well as a copy of their passport or permit
- or, a document that confirms your accommodation from the establishment where you’re staying (or any other document confirming this)
You’ll also need documents that relate to your itinerary that include:
- your booking confirmation of an organised trip/excursion or any other document that confirms your travel plans.
- or, in the case of transit, a visa or other entry permit for the third country of destination; including tickets for your onward journey.
