Schengen visa fees to increase starting June 2024

Beginning June 11, 2024, third-country nationals applying for Schengen visas will see an increase in fees. Adults will now pay €90, up from the previous €80, while children aged six to twelve will see their fees rise from €40 to €45. This adjustment comes as part of the European Commission's decision to implement a 12% global increase in short-stay Schengen visa fees.

While this move has sparked dissatisfaction among those who argue that the increased cost poses a significant financial burden and may discourage travel, the Commission maintains that the adjustment is necessary to maintain the quality of visa services and ensure that costs are in line with inflation and the current economic climate.

The increase in visa fees reflects the broader economic realities faced by the EU and aims to ensure that the Schengen visa system remains sustainable and efficient. Despite the backlash, the Commission believes this step is essential for the continued operation and improvement of visa services.
